Hey guys and girls, Brandyn here. I'm 13, I know young and I know you will most likely say I still have time to think. But for a few years now, I have been thinking of joining the US military. At first I was looking at Marines, but for the past two years it has been Army. I've done my research and am going to college regardless what I do, but my career will most likely be military. But I've been wondering A LOT lately. Do I want to be in the Army, Air Force, or the Navy? I have to decide quick, because next year in high school is when I start JROTC. So I have to decide if I want to leave my school and go to the school with Army JROTC, or just do Navy JROTC at Andrews AFB (yes, I live in Maryland like 5 minutes away from Andrews) or Air Force JROTC at Andrews. But which branch? If Army, then West Point it is, then ROTC there and OTS afterwards. I was planning to become a Ranger (I know all of the requirements, and I know it's super tough, and I'm up for it) and hopefully they ask me to be a Delta later on, as I know I cannot apply for Deltas. Again, I know it's very hard to get into. And if Navy, I was thinking the same for college, and go to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD (I live pretty close to Annapolis too) and then OTS. Then I was thinking about SWCC and then hopefully they ask me to be a SEAL. From what I hear, the Navy would be MUCH safer than the Army, and they get paid more. But then I also hear that the Air Force is great too. I would attend the Air Force academy, and become an officer. I would be a Combat Controller there. But which branch? So please men and women of service, or people that know about this, read this and tell me what's best. Well thanks a lot guys. And Liz, I like the hardcore feel and title. I've had MREs, and they aren't half bad (just very bad when they come out :/). Sergeant Kirby, The Marines was looking cool at first, and I did my research and that just wasn't it for me. People were telling me the Marines were expendable, and I don't want to be just a number. "First in last out". It could mean a wider window for something bad to happen, or just be a longer time to "enjoy your tour" overseas. Kaliroadrager, same thing. I would like to have some time to relax a bit before I get my hardcore training, and I hear that the Navy and Air Force offer that. I hear the Marines is deployment on deployment, and I want time to be with my wife and kids. That may be wrong, but I do know that the living conditions are better. I play airsoft, so I know how tiring and uncomfortable combat can be. I've went airsofting for a 2-day event, as in spent the night out there. We ate MREs... Read More »
